Spring forward

Spring in New York is full of energy. The city comes alive with vibrant blooms as New Yorkers trade their puffy coats and leather boots for cheerful prints and their favorite designer flats. With spring cleaning in the air, it's the perfect time to refresh those framed family photos.

what to wear

Choose outfits that represent you without feeling pressured by the occasion. Neutral colors work well, but don’t shy away from pastel and jewel tones for a pop of color. If the photos will hang on your walls, consider your home's color scheme for inspiration.

Limit patterns—especially small checks that may appear blurry on camera—and avoid extensive graphics or logos, which can distract from your faces. Avoid black, as it can look too heavy and show lint and pet hair.

Make sure your outfit allows for comfortable movement, as I will encourage playful interactions with your children. Shoes matter! For spring outdoor sessions, check the weather for rain or mud. Wear clean, suitable shoes or perhaps bring an extra pair to change into. Barefoot on a blanket is also an option!

Layering is key to be comfortable no matter the temperature!

prep tips

Before we start, please remove your keys and phones from your pockets. Consider bringing a tote bag to store these items. If you wear glasses, be mindful of light reflecting in the lenses. Consider bringing a blanket for some sitting family portraits that coordinates with your chosen looks.

Make sure everyone is well-fed and has enough time to get ready. Avoid pressuring the kids to smile or act a certain way. Keep the atmosphere light, fun, and stress-free, and let the kids be themselves; the less pressure they feel, the more natural and agreeable everyone will be.

I look forward to capturing some amazing moments with you and your family!
